What is CSV?
CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is a plain-text format for tabular data. Each line represents a row, and columns are separated by commas (or other delimiters like semicolons or tabs). CSV is universally supported by spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets), databases, and data processing tools.
Column Analysis Features
- Type detection: Automatically identifies whether a column contains numbers, strings, booleans, dates, or mixed types
- Unique value count: Shows how many distinct values exist per column — useful for identifying categorical vs continuous data
- Empty cell detection: Flags columns with missing data and shows the percentage of empty cells
- Numeric statistics: For numeric columns, calculates min, max, average, and sum
- Value frequency: Shows the top most common values per column — useful for spotting data patterns and outliers
Common Use Cases
Data quality checks: Quickly spot missing values, unexpected types, or outliers before importing into a database. Exploratory analysis: Understand the structure and distribution of a dataset. ETL debugging: Verify that exported CSV files match expected schemas and value ranges.
